Fighting another chick
Yesterday Diane started grappling again. She is pretty tough. I also found out that she outweighs me by 32 pounds. Gotta start lifting again. The problem is that the grappling seriously tires me out. Wish I could find someone to do open training on Saturday mornings. I hate losing, and since Diane is 10 years younger and her boyfriend has been grappling since he was a kid, it is a strong possibility that if I don't keep myself at the top of my game, I'm gonna lose. Not good.

Dislocated thumb
Ow! Oleg dislocated my thumb at grappling class yesterday. Like the weirdo I am, how did I react? Hysterical laughter. Yes, that is normal! Haha. Anyway, he snapped it back in.
Had two grappling matches. Gotta get my thumb to stop hurting. I wanna lift this weekend!!!!

Cardio!
Went to grappling class last night. Had two cage fights - one with Pietro and one with Alan. Oleg said that my cardio has seriously improved. I am really happy. On top of it, even though I don't enjoy running anymore, I would like to do a 5k for breast cancer with the Judester. So improving my cardio will certainly help.
BTW, I am definitely bikini ready!!!!!! Maybe I'll post a new pic soon. Thanks Oleg. You are awesome.

Getting stronger
Grappled on Monday. It was great. We had three rounds of 2 minutes (so Oleg says) each. No other women there, so I had to go all out. I am friggin' sore, even today. It was good though. This grappling is helping me sleep. More tonight.

I've been bad at blogging
Ok, so the last time I blogged was June 13 and it's June 28. I am bad, I know. I have some shit that I am sorting through. Take note though. I grapple Mon, Wed, Fri without fail. That is except last week (Wed, the 24 and Fri, the 26). I was in DC. I missed the grappling, was a little stressed out since I couldn't work out my frustration. So, I am back. I did Grace today at 65# and will start grappling again tomorrow. All is good.

Got an ass kickin'
Had a blast at grappling class yesterday. Once again, I was the only chick. Now, I really love when that happens. I learn much more quickly when my partner knows WTF he is doing. Adam was my partner and we taught each other different moves. It was awesome. Oleg tried to get a young kid to grapple with me, but he bitched about grappling with a girl. Grow the f- up! Man, NJ is so backwards and sexist. I think that he was afraid that I might win.

Yesterday and today
I am wiped. I am exhausted. It's a combination of stress and exercise.
Last night I grappled. Cage fought with three of the guys, who had to go easy since I was so outclassed. It's ok though; I am learning how to defend myself.
Today I did the Hillsborough Hop 5K. Ran the first mile, walked the second, ran the next .75 or so, walked until the last .2 and then ran again! Time was around 38 minutes. Next time I want to run the entire thing. Not bad though for someone who has not run in over a year!!!!

Sore as hell
I grappled again today. Holy shit, am I bruised and sore. I was in the cage four times. I did really well. There was a new girl there. Young, but inexperienced. So, it was nice. I taught her and then I grappled with the guys. This weekend will be dedicated to crossfit. Crossfit is like a first love. It got me into shape, and I will always love it.

Bruised like hell
I grappled again today. My arms are completely bruised. It is crazy. I look like someone beat me up. On the bright side, my ass is getting tighter, my abs are getting tighter, and my arms are getting bigger....Now I have to make sure that I do crossfit this weekend. A day later
I grappled yesterday...really grappled! Three times in the cage - submitted once by a full Nelson, survived 2 full minutes, and then learned techniques on a big dude. This workout was unbelievable. Oleg warmed us up by kicking our asses. I did ok and kept up with some of the guys. I had to do knee push ups at the end because I was wiped! Anyway, I was so tired that I forgot to blog! This MMA/grappling is awesome...and I am still the only chick....and it's fine!!!!

Not for women? Like hell!
I went to grappling class today. We had a sub - a really great judo master (and he seems to be a very gentle nice person). All was well, although I was a bit off of my game - was too busy letting personal shit get in the way of my workout (BAD, THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN). Anyway, at the end of class, the sub, an old-fashioned Russian guy says that I should do judo, and I said, "ok, maybe after my grappling class." Then he said, "GRAPPLING CLASS IS FOR MEN." Are you fucking kidding me? Should I just give up my PhD and either be a secretary or find some rich man to support me while I shop and play tennis? Isn't science for men too?

Took my grappling class last night. Had to reverse Oleg, who must weight close to 200 lb of solid muscle. It was a good workout. Most of the guys went to the boxing class. It was ok though because we went through basic techniques.

Holy crap!
I went to grappling class last night. I was hurting - I mean REALLY hurting. I never give up, but I have to tell you that doing weighted squats after the class (we do many lunges) really messed me up. So that means, no more weighted squats until I get used to the routine.
The class is great, but I keep getting paired up with new guys who don't know anything. They tend to stop and not give it their all. I told Oleg to pair me up with someone tough - I need my ass kicked. Many of these guys are in their 20's and I want to keep up. You're only as old as you feel. So, we'll see what happens on Monday.

I have been really sick. My workout schedule has suffered, but when the season changes, my health gets messed up. So, anyway, yesterday I started my grappling class with Oleg. Riding
I realized that 3 full weight workouts and a metcon per week is too draining. Am going to do two full weight workouts and 2 half weight workouts per week. We'll see how that goes.
Today I just rode the bike (3.0) for 20 minutes just to stay active. I tried to work on pull ups with the bands and tried to learn medicine ball cleans (I looked like a clown on the cleans!).

Bruised arms
Before I launch into my workout, I wanted to add an editorial. Why am I blogging about my workout? Who cares? Does anyone except my friends (maybe?) ever see this? It is because in case a random woman (or man) comes across my blog, they will realize, "Wow, Bonnie wasn't an athlete in high school or college, and she can do this. Why can't I?" I am working up in weight as I go and hope to be at advanced target weights by the end of 2009.
People DO notice. As an adult, I always worked out, did minitriathlons (even though I can't swim well), earned a brown belt in jujitsu...BUT this is the first time that people have pegged my age at least 10 years younger. Pretty awesome, huh? The point is that CROSSFIT type workouts work!!!!

Last day of burpee challenge
Here are 50 burpees for the challenge. I am kinda sad that I am not going to 100, but I feel like my weight training is more important. I really want to do crossfit at the prescribed weights. I promise that I will finish the challenge (or start from scratch) sometime soon. I am still very proud that I got this far. Plus, when I travel for work, I will have to do 100 burpees each day if there is no equipment where I am staying. So there you go!

Weary body
For the past two weeks, I have been feeling unusually tired. According to my trainer, I may be overtraining since I am doing the burpee challenge AND weights. So, I will do my 49 burpees today and 50 tomorrow. Then I will stop my burpees and only do my weight/crossfit workout. Bummer.

Snow day means work out harder!
It's a snow day, BUT I still have to teach at 5PM. Bummer! That means that I can work out at 10:30 AM instead of 10:30 PM. This is heaven!!!!

Squats gone bad
I decided that it is time for me to learn how to do squats. Not air squats, now that I can do those properly. Squats with weights. I started by learning back squats. Light weights to start since my form needs improvement. I tend to lean forward - I am such a novice!
3 sets each of ladder adding 5# each set
45 to 70#
70# back down to 65#

also learned front squat at 45# for form (3)
...and of course, 24 burpees!

Gasping for air
I have been sick since Sunday night. This really sucks. Anyway, I am going to do my workout and see how I do.
I just finished my warm up, including 21 burpees for the challenge...and I am gasping for air!

Artistic military presses
My 6 year old son is an artist. It's great. There is one problem though. He will not draw in a book. That means that there are papers EVERYWHERE. I can spend hours cleaning up, and the next day, the house is a disaster again. I want to throw some of the drafts away, but he gets very upset.
So, military presses are my anger management of choice today. Have a messy house? Do military presses. The dog sh&t in the kitchen? Do military presses. I mean as heavy as you can go.

My friend Norell is a cutie. I was always so proud that I could deadlift her! Well, today I did heavy deadlifts, and I can deadlift more than myself! (I am not skinny.)

Reward for working hard: working out hard
I spent the past four weeks busting my butt at work. No Hanukkah vacation. Barely a New Year's celebration. So I took a half day today and helped Estela celebrate her birthday. As a reward for not thinking about work for a while, I worked out hard - watching my form closely.

Knees out, chest up
I love deadlifts! Little did I know that if I keep doing them the way I have been, I will blow out my knees. Then I will hate deadlifts. To keep my love true, I will now do deadlifts with my knees out, chest up, and yes, a tight ass.

I was pretty sick today. Had to cancel a work dinner. Around 8:30, I was surfing the internet and I watched Diane Sawyer interviewing the recently deceased Randy Pausch. I thought "What if this was the last day of my life?" I got inspired to do my workout even if I am not at my best.

I have been doing Fran on my own. Yesterday my trainer/hubby told me that I wasn't squatting deep enough. So I thought, let's have Mark spot me. Oh man, was I off on my squats!

You need to go deeper
My workout for today:
4 rounds
12 jumping pull ups
15 push ups (with handle)
18-19 (2/4 rounds of each) sit ups
20 air squats
13 min 13 sec
I do jumping pull ups with a bar that fits into the door frame
I can do regular push ups, but when I use the pushup handles, I have to do knee push ups
I also found out from my trainer/husband that my squats are not deep enough :(
Today is also day 3 of the burpee challenge!

Me blogging?
My husband started blogging, so I thought that I'd try it. We'll see if I like it or follow through. Anyway, I was never very athletic as a kid, and as an adult, I have tried a bunch of activities, like martial arts and mini-triathlons. I would love to start doing those things again, but with a 6 year old and >40 hour a week job, it is difficult. I got turned onto Crossfit, modify the weights, and I took off the remaining 8 pounds of baby weight, and have to say CROSSFIT IS AWESOME!!!
